This time the kids didn’t just miss half a day for snow, they missed two and a half days! I know that people in the north will laugh that life stopped when we got less than three inches, but what they don’t understand is that we don’t have snow plows, snow tires, or even salt for the road, so once the snow started melting on the first day, by the time the night hit, the temperatures dropped to below freezing and the melted snow turned into a sheet of ice. People still tried to drive on it and consequently there were a lot of accidents. The kids and I stayed home. Andy did head into work, but his years in Alaska and his 25 year old jeep kept him safe (and maybe the prayer I said on his behalf helped too). The kids had fun playing in the snow till they were too frozen to enjoy it. We had some winter clothes, but not much. The snow was still there the next day and once again, they went out and played with friends till they were too cold. I loved watching my kids enjoy the snow, but admittedly, I was ready for them to go back to school so I could finally clean my floors.
During Max’s indoor time, he created his own 2D version of “Hell Divers,” a video game he enjoys. I am honestly impressed with his coding skills. I used to be astonished that my grandpa, a man who spent years at a computer job, couldn’t understand how to use a smart phone, but now, my own kid seems to have surpassed my technological abilities. He still has a ways to catch up to his dad, but I wouldn’t be surprised if some day he passes him up too.
