EOY and all that jazz

Harvey graduated preschool! I have to admit, I choked back tears for most of the ceremony. Their adorable songs were heart warming and they were all so cute, but the thing that kept me on the verge of tears was knowing this was my last kid to go to preschool. Three of four of our kids went to this school and we had such a great experience there, but I’m also just a bit sad about that part of my life being closed. Of course, there are positives. I’ll have more time to work on my novel, keep the house organized, and get some painting and projects done, but I really loved the preschool age. I feel like I got to enjoy it the most with Harvey because I didn’t have a baby that needed my constant attention. I scanned a bunch of the kids’ school work from the year and it was so cool to see Harvey’s drawings from the beginning of the year to the end of the year (the pictures below are of the same character).

After his last day of preschool, we went to kindergarten kickoff at the elementary school. Harvey kept saying, “I’m so exciting!” We got to take his dear friend, Jane because her mom had to go to the hospital with one of their other kids. The teachers kept mistaking them for twins. I’m not sure they look a lot a like. I think it was mostly that there was one parent and two kids that sparked their curiosity.

We’ve been trying to help our friends during this challenging time (when they let us). We got to have Jane over Friday, Andy got to go give their son a blessing, and we’ve fed them twice. They’re kind of funny though. They are very independent people and struggle to let us serve them sometimes, but honestly it is a pleasure to help your friends in need. My friend Sam took her daughter and asked if Maverick wanted to go with them. He didn’t even hesitate. He loves Grant and was excited to go spend some time with his bud at the hospital. The other good news was that Grant hasn’t eaten much all week, but we sent one of his favorite treats: oatmeal cream pies and I was told that he actually ate one!

Saturday evening I braved the crowds without Andy to go to the “Salute to the troops” firework show. It has gone on every year for a few years now and this was our first time going. Andy will HAVE to go next year (per Beverly’s orders), and really he shouldn’t miss it, it was incredible. I’ve never seen a firework show quite like it.

I got to chaperone Maverick’s field trip. It was up at a State park. The kids had a blast and it was very informative, especially in regard to animal adaptations.
